The Speed of Change | Dennis Neeley, AIA
When you are in the technology, business "change" is an important topic. A product or idea brought out too early will not result in change, a "great product" that is not understood, accepted or has a bad interface will not bring change, a product that you think will sell to 10% of the market that only sells to 1% of the market may not survive and therefore will not bring change, a product introduced too late will not bring change. Why do we focus on change?

Guidelines—What Can You Do Now? | Dennis Neeley, AIA
Many architects and engineers are sharing their BIM projects, it is only a matter of time before they all do. Owners are starting to require sharing. General contractors are creating agreements with subcontractors on the sharing of their BIM projects. Sharing quickly lead to discussion on Guidelines and Standards (object and assembly naming, modeling techniques, object creation standards, sheet layout, and on and on). This is a critical and very important area for discussions and results, this is a great topic for spending an inordinate amount of time.

Owners — What Should You Do About BIM? | Dennis Neeley, AIA
Owners are hearing about projects coming in at 10% lower than budgeted when architects and engineers created their drawings and specifications using BIM as their modeling tool. Owners are also starting to realize that if they have many architects working on their projects they are not getting an integrated set of data from the collection of projects, and therefore, the downstream value of the BIM projects for facilities management, operations and maintenance is compromised.

Bringing Credibility to BIM | Mark Mergenschroer
I recently was invited to speak as a part of a "Putting BIM into Practice" panel in Florida, which was hosted by Building Design and Construction Magazine. In speaking to some of the guests in attendance, many of them were interested in my background and wanted to know how much experience I had in the industry. Looking back, I realized these guests were trying to get a good feel for my credibility, since I was going to be sharing my knowledge of BIM with them. This made me stop and think. I have been writing in the SmartBIM Newsletter for 6 months now, and I began to wonder if my readers really understand my background and expertise in the industry.
